SECONDARY PERSONALITY PROFILE
LIKES:
Adventure:
Never one to pass up a good adrenaline kick, Bill has always been fond of finding new ways to increase the amount of gray in his parents’ hair. Ever since he was little, Bill loved the idea of doing impossible – and often death defying – things. There’s just something about the thrill of life and all the madness in it that keeps Bill from being the sort of fellow interested in sitting still.
Mysteries and Puzzles:
One of the primary reasons Bill became a curse-breaker in the first place was a combination of his love of adventure and his obsession with puzzles. He’d always prided himself in his ability to think his way out of tricky situations and complicated mental exercises, though admittedly the thought of doing such things for a living didn’t occur to him until he was much older than the five year old self who figured out a way to weasel into Dad’s garage of Muggle-wonders despite all the anti-baby wards about the place.
Academics:
Truth is, much as Bill loves to do dangerous things when he can, he’s just as dedicated to furthering his knowledge in as many areas as possible. Much of it is a result of his endless curiosity about the way things work – probably something he picked up from his Dad – but part of it also stems from the responsibilities he placed on himself when he was younger. Bill loves to learn new things and is generally among the first to test a new idea, rather than turn it away because its not traditional.
His Parents:
Bill’s always been close to his parents – particularly his Dad – and no matter how crazy he makes them, he’s always enjoyed the fact that he’s always accepted when he comes home. He takes a secret enjoyment out of harrying his mother ( His favorite earring is loved for just such a reason, among things ) and has always enjoyed sitting out in the garage with his father, trying to figure out the mechanics of some outlandish Muggle contraption. ( He still isn’t too sure about toasters… )
The Siblings:
Bill has a special fondness for all of his younger siblings, and that fondness is generally unique to the sibling. Charlie is his favorite ( Don’t tell the twins! ) simply because he was around the longest, always dogging him and being a right little pest. Bill’s convinced his dragon-chasing ways are a direct result of catching his big brother’s adventure fever. Percy wasn’t always a prat, and to this day Bill still isn’t sure where the family went wrong with him. The twins, of course, are a close second to Charlie, being right little hellions with a penchant for mischief he deeply admires. Ron’s great, in that baby-of-the-brothers sort of way; he tries a bit too hard sometimes, which makes him a bit silly now and then. Ginny, of course, will always have a special place with Bill, knowing as well as his parents how much of a surprise she was. There’s a lot of years between him and his baby sister, but that doesn’t stop Bill from loving the little brat.
DISLIKES:
Blood-Mania:
Bill never really saw the point in it. Sure, wizards and Muggles have completely different lifestyles and realities, but at the end of the day human is human as far as Bill sees it. Not only that, but having grown up with frequent exposure to Muggle artifacts, Bill has a healthy fascination for the way Muggles live. He finds their ingenuity to be admirable, and their ability to overcome their lack of magic through nicks and knacks simply marvelous. Wizards could learn a thing or two from them, he’s sure of it.
The Obscenely Wealthy:
Economy is a good thing, and as far as Bill’s concerned, the wizarding one is a bit deficient at times. There are a lot of families just sitting on heaps of wealth and not doing anything to contribute to the society as a result of it, or worse, are over-inflating certain areas that simply don’t need the monetary aid. Maybe it comes from growing up in a household where money was tightly budgeted, but the free way certain families are with their wealth is just distasteful to him.
The Fudge Administration:
If ever there is corruption in the government, it is when things outside the perfect rose colored world start to tint darker. Fudge’s response to the return of Voldemort was not only deplorable, it was dangerous. The wizarding world was in desperate need of strong leadership, not a determinedly blind eye. Then, with Voldemort’s return too obvious to ignore, it was too late to fully prepare for what is coming, and for Bill, that is something simply unacceptable.
Injury to Family and Friends:
Bill is a fiercely loyal and protective person, a result of being the oldest of seven siblings and the son of two very loving and practical parents. His family means absolutely everything to him, and just the thought of losing one of them is enough to make him go cold. There is no replacing any of them in his heart – even Percy is dearly loved, no matter his mistakes and moments of questionable judgement. Bill does not take well to seeing anyone in his family hurting, and he’s just as bad when it comes to his friends.
Rats:
Bill never really cared much about rats either way when he was younger. He easily became used to his brother Percy’s pet rat and at Hogwarts, was generally not bothered by them(Unless he was having to deal with bits of them for Potions class. that was always a bit disconcerting, really. )
After a few years in Egypt dealing with more than a few swarms of rats in badly sealed off tombs and a particularly nasty fight with a bandicoot rat, Bill went from being neutral to having a rather heavy distaste for the creatures.
When it turned out that Percy’s rat ( Who by that point, was Ron’s ) was in fact an animagus who had spent years living with his family in his animal form to hide from the justice he well deserved for betraying Harry’s parents to Voldemort, Bill fell onto the rather firm opinion that rats are despicable, and will not be shaken of this notion.
STRENGTHS:
Puzzle-Solving:
Bill loves to put his mind to the test as often and in as varying ways as possible. Mysteries intrigue him and puzzles have always been a source of entertainment for him. Ever since Bill was a child, he had a highly developed sense of curiosity that caused him to question how things worked and find ways to make things work differently. He has a highly analytical mind that is touched by bits of imaginative fancy that makes him perfect for a Curse-Breaker; his love of brain-teasers and solving riddles tending to give him a bit of a leg up in the job more often than not.
Defensive Magic, Transfiguration & Dueling:
One doesn’t really get to become a Gringotts Curse-Breaker without a very well developed understanding of Defensive magic and how it works. Combative magic had been one of Bill’s special interests at school ( Which had lead him to entertain the notion of becoming an Auror after Hogwarts ) but what marked him as a unique duelist was his frequency to casting creative bits of Transfiguration as opposed to the traditional offensive hexes and jinxes a skilled duelist would block automatically. Due to his unique approach to fighting Dark magic, it was noted that perhaps he ought to consider a career in Curse-Breaking, where creative spellwork and an analytical mind would only prove to be beneficial.
Recklessly Brave:
Although it has been mentioned prior to this, it does bear repeating as it is such a quintessential aspect of who and what Bill is. He has an obsession with the thrill of adrenaline, which often gets him into interesting situations at work, but he is not entirely foolish. While he is always among the first to join in on a fray, Bill hangs back just long enough to formulate a plan. He tries not to rush headlong into things, but sometimes, it looks too entertaining to resist.
WEAKNESS:
His Family:
Bill has a bone deep terror of losing any member of his family in the coming war, and the thought of any harm coming to them is enough to give him nightmares. He will stop at nothing to keep his family safe, but there are so many of them and they are all so scattered, that there is only so much he can do to keep them safe.
Divination:
Being a rather analytical individual, Bill finds Divination to be a bit of anathema. It’s a little too inexact an art for him to fully appreciate it. He accepts that there are those who are legitimately capable of viewing the future, but he also feels that divination is not something that can really be taught. Either you have it, or you don’t – you see, or you can’t.
Women:
Bill would be the first to admit that he has a fondness for the fair ladyfolk, and would be just as quick to confess that fondness has at times gotten him into trouble. It’s not so much that he is unfaithful or flighty, so much as he just isn’t one to sit still and more often than not, that’s what women want. A stable man to rely on, and while very responsible, Bill is far from stable. He’s always travelling, always moving, and isn’t really the settling down type of bloke. Or at least, he figures he isn’t.
Quidditch / Flying:
Bill never really got the hang of it ( Much to Charlie’s endless entertainment ) To this day he tends to find other methods of travel, from Floo to Portkeys. If he absolutely must fly, he’d rather do it on an animal like a Hippogriff than a broom. He’s just rubbish with them, and frankly, with as many Quidditch-oriented little siblings as he’s got, its rather embarrassing for him, truth be told.
Stubborn:
While he tends to be laid back most of the time, Bill has a stubborn streak a mile wide and ten feet deep. If he gets his mind set on something, there is nothing and noone who can make him budge until he is ready to do so. While it can certainly be a benefit in his line of work, more often than not it leads to Bill butting heads with his family in ways that aren’t meant to tease, but are genuinely tense. It happens with his friends, even his colleagues – and more often than not, it is not a very redeeming quality.
