“Ah- unfortunately a slip of carelessness on the part of one of my companions, but not to worry, it won’t be happening again.” Queenie had been thoroughly apologetic, and ultimately Newt suspected Dougal was behind it, based on the way the demiguise had been looking at him when he left. Little troublemaker was almost as bad as the Niffler, at times.

“And you really are quite lucky I showed up when I did- Delilah frightens rather easily, especially around humans, and a Nundu may release incredibly toxic breath when she feels threatened.” He offered a smile, and wondered if this man was from the Ministry, considering his accent was decidedly British, and not American. That could be very very bad for him. “Newt Scammander, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. You are― ?”

“That slip could have been costly,” Harry pointed out grimly, refusing to be charmed by the man’s easy if rather awkward demeanor. Nothing about him came across as particularly dangerous, but that hardly meant much in their world. Still, the name Delilah had his brows shooting skyward – and his posture relaxing incrementally despite his misgivings.

If that wasn’t the most Hagrid thing to name a Nundu he had ever heard.

Shaking his head, he supposed there was little to do about this situation other than the obvious point of arrest – when the man introduced himself. Newt Scamander. Harry wasn’t one for remembering authors, but with a name like that to make fun of all year it had certainly stuck in between doodling with Ron upon their tattered shared copy of a particular book –

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!” He blurted it before he could think – “Shit,” He didn’t know if that had been published yet for crying out loud. “I mean – damn, sorry,” He held out his hand, “Harry Potter – I’m really hoping you’re the man I think you are or that’s going to be even harder to explain.” All thoughts of arrest fled in the face of something even distantly recognizable, admittedly.

Ignorance is Bliss ( or is it? )

Newt dozed a while longer, unconscious of the way he shifted under the coat to soak up the warmth that lingered from the other man, and blissfully unaware of the fact he’d even fallen asleep, much less the presence of another near him. It was nearly twenty minutes later that he finally blearily lifted his head, blinking at his surroundings, noticing that it had gotten much darker since he’d sat down. Odd― he should have been much colder by this time in the evening, having slept against cold stone… It was then he noticed that another coat had been placed atop his own, and blinked, before thinking to look around for its owner.

Green eyes widened in shock and alarm as he saw who it was that had taken notice of him standing nearby, and for a moment he felt breath and words both leave him. Perhaps that was a good thing, though, because he noticed several things in the time it took for his voice and lungs to begin working again.

For one, the man had made no move to attack him, and for another, chances were he’d simply been standing there this whole time, without a coat. That didn’t make much sense to Newt, and while it was easy to chalk it up to ‘humanish nonsense’, it also struck a curious note, as it reminded him of waiting at a slumbering creature’s side to earn its trust.

“What are you doing here?” He croaked, voice too thick with sleep and exhaustion to carry any real malice.

With no agenda to attend to, Gellert had little issue standing at quiet attention off to the side. It was something second nature to him, to stand rooted somewhere and simply observe the world as it moved around him – and in this instance it had the benefit of placing him in a position of defense over someone who would surely not expect it. There was value in the power of a single voice – of that there could be no doubt – and the voice Scamander carried bore weight for others in a way that was quietly appealing. Better then, to have him as an ally than to mark him as an enemy.

It was not long before the rough sound of a sleep weary voice tinged with nerves reached his ears. Chin raising slightly, he considered returning the question upon the inquirer before ultimately yielding in the name of good will, “I had business here that has since been concluded.” Vague though it might have been, it was truthful enough as he shifted and took the man in. “I must say I did not expect to find you sleeping on a stoop so near the place.” Then again he didn’t generally anticipate finding people asleep on stoops in general. “Everything alright?” No sooner did he ask it, did Gellert know it would be turned into a weapon against him, but there was no taking the words back now.

“it’s not your fault. don’t blame yourself.” | Newt @ Gellert

{ Seven Word Starters }

“Is it not my name to which they attribute their crimes?” Gellert’s grief was only half as strong as his fury. “Is it not my words that they twist in order to excuse this flagrant disregard for human life?”

Something cracked nearby – a loud sound like a gunshot as a tree’s core split itself in twain, despite the fact Gellert’s entire focus appeared to be on Newt. His body was poised for a fight and it felt as though his very blood sang out for vengeance, but he did not move while Newt was still directly in the line of fire. He recognized the tone – the position – the damned man was seeking to tame him – to soothe his rage as though it were one of his animals.

Perhaps it was not so different, for he had stilled – and he was now watching Newt as surely as he was the destruction meted out beyond the man’s shoulder. He could avenge this. Bodies would litter the ground again, but they would not belong to innocent bystanders.

“Stand down – “ His decision was made – blood would be paid for this. “They want my name, I will show them what it means to bear it’s wrath.” The tabloids would pin all of this on him one way or another, the least he could do was at least ensure the overall damage they would report in from these people would end right here.

“everything is so confusing. i don’t know.” Harry @ Salazar

{ Seven Word Starters }

“Confusion need not lead you off the path of understanding, Mr. Potter. It merely indicates a conflicting influx of information. Focus on what you do know, and from there take hold of what you do not understand – the pieces that do not fit in with your present world view – and examine them critically. If you find that this leads you down paths that are too broad, pull back and focus again on something small. It is easy to become overwhelmed, but there is nothing wrong with backtracking or taking one’s time. Tackle what you can manage, and we’ll look at the parts that are confusing you together when you’ve finished, alright?”

“what am i supposed to say to that?” | Newt @ Calliope

{ Seven Word Starters }

“Well dear you might want to start with a thank you – it never hurts to be gracious, even to those we don’t like. You don’t have to agree with someone’s policies to treat them with civility and it is a compliment to be offered such a position without the proper credentials. Then, inform them that you must decline – you might want to cite it as a conflict of interest, but whatever you do, don’t insult them. Aurors are like hippogriffs – they take insults very personally and can get quite hostile if they feel they’re being disrespected. Bow out gracefully, and get out of the drawing room as quickly as you can. We’ll be waiting for you in the wings, so you won’t have to try and navigate your way out of here on your own.”

“Thanks for the advice, but I don’t really have time to be laying around Malfoy. I’ll take some pain reliever and whatever else, but I’ll be damned before I spend the remainder of my shift in here.” Let alone the two days that were being insisted upon. “It’s not as bad as we thought it was anyway.” Which meant he’d be able to bully Clemence into clearing him for duty easily enough – if you weren’t bleeding or on your death bed, you could still be working as far as that old codger was concerned. There were some benefits to the fact not all of the older generation had retired yet, honestly.

“i hate knowing we have to hide.” | Harry @ Gellert??? ( up to you whether this is a time-toss or not?? )

{ Seven Word Starters }

“If you have another suggestion, I’m all ears,” As far as he could see it, Harold Prince wasn’t caught out for stepping out of the fucking Veil like that was just something that could happen because he’d been in the right place at the right time to shield the man. There were a lot of questions, but seeing as the alternative was letting the Ministry ask them there didn’t seem to be much recourse unless Prince fancied being tortured until every ounce of valuable information that could be meted from him had been.

“just breathe… you’re okay, i promise, just breathe.” | Newt @ Bunty cause even professionals can get hurt.

It was her fault  –  she hadn’t been quick enough to get out of the way when Georgie had spooked. If she’d been a little faster they wouldn’t be in this awful mess – the poor dear still needed his poultices, but she could barely think past her own pain as her leg throbbed horribly.

She hadn’t reported Georgie yet – she admittedly hadn’t planned to. He was getting on fine here, and she knew Scamander intended to take him to a conservation once he was stabilized. The only thing truly registering beyond the pain was the terror of knowing that if they weren’t able to heal these burns properly, she’d be forced to take time off – and worse still, there would be an inquiry she just couldn’t bear being responsible for.

“I’m – sorry,” She managed, still gripping her leg as she combated physical agony and emotional misery. She tried to do as he said – panicking now wouldn’t help anyone after all – especially when her clients could pick up on it. She couldn’t distress anyone more than she already had. “Up – upstairs. We should  – deal with this upstairs. I don’t want to alarm them.” She couldn’t walk, she knew she couldn’t, but if he levitated her – at least then the animals wouldn’t also be on edge throughout all this!

“please don’t do this, don’t act like you care.” | Newt @ Theseus

{ Hurt Meme }

It was at times like this that Theseus wondered how well Newt knew him at all. It seemed as though his brother had a particular idea in his mind about who he was and what he represented, but had made no effort to learn more or even attempt to understand why he had such thoughts when evidence to the contrary appeared so frequently.

Perhaps if Theseus were some misunderstood creature, his brother might have put forth some actual effort into understanding him, or at least trying to. As it was, he found himself yet again faced with bristling contempt when he had done little more than offer assistance from the only quarters that he could. It could be bitterly frustrating, dealing with this sort of deliberate disregard, but he supposed there was nothing for it now. Regardless of his feelings, Newt had set his mind up on him, and would not be budged from it – so there was no point in arguing the matter.

“If it pleases you,” There were other ways to approach this beyond the genuine, if that was what Newt preferred. “How’s this then – Grimmson will not hesitate to kill that boy. It is, after all, the ministry’s decree. As far as I see it, the only chance Credence has of surviving this manhunt is if you find him first. I can convince Travers to grant you one final opportunity to agree – you don’t have to stay with the office forever, for God’s sake.” His frustration had bled through after all, and war-time habit had not yet broken clear of him as he fell automatically to the Muggle phrasing as opposed to Merlin. “Think about this from a strategical standpoint Newt – for his sake, if not your own.”

“You might want to step away from the Venomous Tentacula. Slowly, don’t spook it.” | Newt @ Jacob- stay away from the hissing plants, son

Well, venomous certainly got his attention. Stopping almost instantly, Jacob eyed what looked at first to be a simple plant – before sucking in a slight breath as it started to move. Creeping back very carefully, he waited until he felt he was at a good enough distance before he sort of shuffled over to Newt at a quick pace, wheezing out a sigh of relief when nothing ended horribly.

“Is it uh – a good idea to have a poisonous ah – hunting plant around? I mean, you got herbivores down here right? Aren’t you ever worried somebody might try to eat somebody else unknowingly?”
