Magnus Thiney

  • Head of Pest Advisory Board as of 1999
  • 36 as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)
  • Ravenclaw Alumni
  • Muggleborn

Magnus is not a fan of pests – and he’s not a fan of being considered one, either. He takes extreme issue with those who think being ‘pureblood’ somehow makes you better at being human, because from what he’s seen, it just makes you worse at it. And if being a good wizard means being a terrible human, well. Magic just isn’t everything, is it?

Though not officially inducted, Magnus did all he could for suspected supporters of Dumbledore and might have joined the Order had anyone seen fit to approach him. As it was, he served as much aid to the resistance as he could manage, and during the Ministry Purge, aided several of his colleagues out of the country.

Despite his own status, he refused to leave and as a result of his open defiance, lost his wife and son while he was on trial. His home conveniently attacked during that time, despite the change on the docket for it. He is, as a result, incredibly cranky with Severus’ acquittal and tends to take his frustration at his lot in life out on the man, despite the considerable evidence of how hard Severus worked for the war effort.

He’s the only Death Eater Magnus knows, and so he’s the outlet for all the hurt and vitriol he feels. For his part, Severus bears it because the fight in him is long gone, and he understands the need in those who still have it, to find a target.

Mariska Hristo ( Bulgarian Branch, Mulciber Clan )

  • Owner of Tomes and Scrolls, Hogsmeade
  • 39 as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)
  • Ex-Auror, Bulgarian Ministry
  • Durmstrang Alumni

Mariska is an aloof and utterly brilliant tactician. She believes in contingencies, in constant vigilance, and in complete control of interrogation situations. She is as ruthless as her sister Rayna, a celebrated Bulgarian huntsman – though her targets tend to be more man shaped than beast.

Mariska hunts criminals, and she’s always been very good at it. As a woman of the Mulciber clan, it is within her responsibilities to uphold the Seven Decrees, and she does so without question or concern. To her, werewolves and vampires are not human. They are not deserving of rights. Any who come within her vicinity will die. Regardless of the Ministry of Britain’s take on the matter.

Mariska came to Hogsmeade after the Battle of Hogwarts on the call of her brother-in-arms, Lucas Mulciber, to observe and to assist in repairs. She purchased the decimated shop of Tomes and Scrolls from its devastated owner with enough galleons to set him up nicely elsewhere, and she is currently dedicating her time to the rebuilding efforts. She, like her sister, is here to defend the town from the foolish followers of a wizard who dared to call himself a lord.

And yes. That is how she views Voldemort. And no, she is not and never has been afraid to say his name.

During his stay at the Mulciber Estate, Severus was introduced to Mariska and Rayna by Lucas, who informed him that the two would be teaching them sparring techniques. Severus refused on pure principle of raising his wand or his hand to a woman and Mariska kicked his ass on the pure principle that anything a man can do, she can do better.

Both women ruthlessly trained Severus in finding pressure points while grappling, and despite the many bruises he was and is, to this day, grateful for the lessons. It was Rayna who first taught Severus how to throw knives – though he and Lucas had practiced basic fighting technique with daggers, throwing hadn’t come into play until that point. He may have been quite good at it if he kept up the practice.

Knowing that Mariska and Rayna are in the shadow of Hogwarts gives Severus an enormous sense of security in regard to the continued sanctity of the school still fighting to regain itself after such a devastating battle. Like the sisters, he knows that destroying Voldemort does not put an end to his following or their radical views, and Severus has always been of the opinion that the best weapon against fire, is a stronger blaze.

That said, these women are neither his friends nor his allies. They are Mulciber women and they hold loyalty only to their clan and the beliefs of their clan. While they are not outright antagonistic with Severus, they aren’t fond either. It would be safe to assume they have no particular feeling toward him in any direction – his existence to them is quite meaningless despite Lucas’ fondness. Severus, for his part, both respects and fears them.

Judas Holt

  • Deputy Head of DoIS as of 2001
  • Previous supervisor of DoIS Imports And Exports
  • 36

as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)

  • Ravenclaw Alumni
  • Halfblood

Severus and Judas existed on one another’s peripheries for six years, before a spread of prank-related maladies caused them to be paired up in potions class by sheer dumb luck. The two hit it off surprisingly well and afterward began to work together in other classes.

Severus – who had a notorious habit of skipping potions class because he had already completed and modified most of the potions on the curriculum – began etching his modifications into his text book for Judas and, as their friendship continued, spells as well. Indeed, it is Judas we have to thank for the fact Severus’ old textbook was in the school cupboard for Harry to find twenty years later, as he forgot it on the last day of revisions and Severus never bothered to ask where it had gotten to.

Judas, for his part, was a savant with poisons and had quite an exceptional skill with herbology, which permitted him an edge when he came to work for DoIS. Firmly neutral during the course of the First Wizarding War, he provided Severus with patents and poisons when necessary during the second one. Be it for Order or Death Eater business – Judas never asked, and very carefully didn’t care.

The two remain, for better or worse, amiable allies.

Anita Flynn

  • Clerk at Flourish & Blotts
  • 26 as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)
  • Slytherin Alumni
  • Muggleborn

Anita was among the first flock of first years Severus ever dealt with, and was in essence the very reason why he implored Albus to permit him the position of Head of Slytherin. She displayed many signs of abuse that he could not comprehend the faculty not noticing, and often times she was belligerent when frightened, leading to unnecessary detention and further punishment for a (to Severus’ mind) completely understandable defense mechanism.

He took her under his wing almost immediately, and through Anita’s growth and learning came to develop the persona he eventually holds by the time Draco Malfoy and other such Slytherins take to the house. A cruel task master in the classroom and a sympathetic and understanding ear without, the viciousness with which Severus defends his Slytherins was born, ultimately, from what Anita taught him.

Children should be able to trust the adults around them to protect them. No matter what.

In Anita’s fourth year, Severus’ particular brand of justice reared it’s head and, like his unknown uncle Stephan, he found absolute pleasure in meting it out. Severus killed Anita’s father in cold blood through the use of a carefully stoppered and untraceable poison. The only one to suspect him was Anita herself, though she never spoke of it and to this day, remains staunch in the remark that her father’s drinking lead his liver to collapse, among other things.

Severus remained in touch with Anita throughout her life, and she made a habit of sending him coupons from the store for no other reason than her own amusement, knowing well how surely he could get whenever something bright and colorful popped in front of him. (She may, even, have designed a few herself just for an excuse to send him things in neons.)

Shortly before he was set to kill Albus, Severus sent her a letter with a remark that France was quite lovely this time of year. Understanding the note for what it was, Anita left England with her little brother and did not return until after the Battle of Hogwarts.

Pavla Mulciber ( Bulgarian Branch )

  • Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee
  • Ex-Enforcer for the Bulgarian Minister for Magic
  • 40 as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)
  • Durmstrang Alumni
  • Fiendfire Specialist

Pavla transferred to England at the bequest of the clan elders. As the Enforcer to the Bulgarian Minister for Magic Pavla’s role was essentially that of a body guard. She was frequently needed to test and examine the Minister’s food, forcibly remove irksome visitors and in very rare, very confidential cases, act as an assassin.

Her transfer to the British Ministry for Magic came as a considerable surprise, for she declined the offer of an Auror position in favor of the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee. Her reasoning was that with war imminent upon the British Isles, they will need the best possible representatives to hide this darkness from the Muggle world. She is a shrewd tactician and she openly declares herself a representative of Bulgarian support in these dark times.

She and Severus have no contact until after the war is over, and he begins working for DoIS. There are more Mulcibers in the ministry than he anticipated for such a firmly neutral clan, but having little understanding of their overall values he never saw fit to question it. The two worked together on a case involving a poison she recognized from Bulgaria – she provided him with the details of it’s make and antidote, and he was able to fast track it’s classification in the system thanks to her assistance.

Julien Mulciber ( Versailles Branch )

  • Unspeakable,
  • 47 as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)
  • Beauxbatons Alumni
  • Occlumency & Legilimancy Specialist

Julien has been in service to Britain under the orders of the clan elders for twenty-eight years. Sent as a youth by the then-patriarch of Versailles to keep an eye on the British cousins after the tragic death of their patriarch, Gareth Mulciber (Father of Rugen, grandfather of Lucas), Julien has been a part of the Ministry since graduating Beauxbatons. The slow arrival of more and more of his clan in the Ministry is a happy sight for him, as he had begun to wonder if he had been forgotten about in this post.

Julien has a particular ‘gift’ for finding witnesses for Mulciber lawyers. Mind related magics are a particular specialty of his. He is adept at Occlumency, Legilimancy and of the Unforgivables, his greatest being Imperio. He is not in any way affiliated to the Dark Lord. And woe be any fool who tries to recruit him.

During his summer at the Mulciber estate, Severus met Julien all of twice. The first was particularly memorable in the fact that for reasons relating to a prank on Eric, Lucas and Severus managed to dump an entire vat of aged wine over the man’s head – and Severus nearly perished for the terror as he awaited a backlash that never came.

Julien’s fullthroated laughter in that moment secured a sense of safety around him that Severus has never forgotten, which resulted in him speaking to Julien in later years about appointments and letters of recommendation for promising Slytherin (and in one remarkable case, a Hufflepuff) students with a neutral or positive stance in the war effort.

The second time they met over that summer was much more subdued, as it came in the wake of a visit from one of Lucas’ other friends who was quite vocal about their support of the Dark Lord. After they had left, Julien had a few words with Lucas and Severus about the ‘facts of life’.

Kings come and kings go. Be loyal not to mortal men, but to immortal cause. Though these words seemed to hold significant value to Lucas, they are still a cause of puzzlement to Severus, who’s particular brand of loyalty cannot ever function on such a scale. Nor has he ever figured out how this sentiment equates to the pureblood Mulciber clan’s overall disparagement of the Dark Lord and his regime, with the notable exceptions of Rugen and Lucas.

Clotaire Mulciber (

Pyrénées Branch )

  • Hit Wizard
  • 32

as of the declaration of the Second War (Technically Harry Potter’s 6th year)

  • Beauxbatons Alumni
  • Legilimancy Specialist

Clotaire got on with Lucas fairly well whenever they were thrust together as cohorts during clan gatherings and was genuinely amicable with Severus during the summer he spent at the Mulciber Estates after his mother’s passing. Unlike Lucas, Clotaire has a very open and charming personality and has absolutely no difficulty making and maintaining friendships, which allowed him to stay in contact with Severus after the first war ended and maintain a steady rapport.

He firmly believes in active networking and it was for this reason that the patriarch of the

Pyrénées Mulcibers selected him to represent the French family branch in the UK during their time of war and need. Though the Mulcibers kept a strictly neutral stance during the first war, they collectively agreed upon the second insurgence to take a stand.

Clotaire transferred to the British Ministry of Magic from the French Ministry shortly after Voldemort’s return was publicized, and worked to establish the good name of Mulciber amongst his fellows. He had quite a bit of work cut out for him thanks to old Rugen, the first of the Mulcibers to blatantly ignore Mulciber clan law and join forces with an active regime monger, and of course Lucas himself (Rugen’s son) who joined as well despite the clan’s personal response on the matter of such an allegiance.

Despite these enormous setbacks, Clotaire is nothing if not completely dedicated to Mulciber clan needs and desires. His faith in his family keeps him optimistic even when other members slip up.

Emily Sung-Yueng was a seventh year Hufflepuff student during Severus’ first year as a professor. She gave him a whole new appreciation for the tenacious nature of Hufflepuffs, as never before had he found himself so firmly set on the wrong side of a badger’s ornery temper.

Brought up in a halfblood home, Emily spent the better majority of her school years under pressure, consistently terrified for her muggleborn mother and her pronounced blood traitor father. She knew full well that the fall of the Dark Lord did not equate to the fall of prejudice, and though the defection of Severus Snape was a widely publicized story both prior to and after his appointment at Hogwarts, she did not for one moment believe that her new teacher was a leopard with newly forged spots.

For the entire semester, Severus found himself reading incredibly well crafted essays that managed to incorporate some of the most phenomenal analogies he has, to this day, ever seen. Emily had an absolute gift with words, managing to turn literally every one of her assignments into a sociopolitical statement of aggression against her professor.

Generally speaking he tended to be far too impressed with her ability to turn ingredient side effects into thinly veiled observations on the lasting impressions of racism to ever call her out on it, and the fact that she later took up a position in the Department of International Magical Cooperation that has blossomed now into an incredibly political and vocal career did not surprise him one bit.

Severus followed her career track as well as her publications, for despite her wrath in his general direction, he was truly captivated by her intellect and pleased to have had the opportunity to see her rise up.
