- Severus’ favorite colors are a deep, navy blue or a dark, bottle green.
- Severus is not a fancy cook, all potions jokes aside. He makes simple, filling meals when he remembers to do so when he is not at Hogwarts; while there he tends to eat fairly simply as well, finding that food heavy with creams and sugars tends to upset his stomach.
- He actually greatly enjoys wizards chess.
- While accomplished with the waltz, Severus generally gets older students to host these particular lessons for Slytherin and serves more as a verbal coach than a physical one. This has lead to confrontations however, held under the belief that Severus can’t dance, that have resulted in rather shocking displays to put that rumor to rest and get the students back on track with the lesson they felt their professor too inept to be supervising.
- Severus is particularly kind to animals, generally out of sight of everyone, and is known to keep a small stash of treats on him for the various castle cats that wander about – including Mrs. Norris. This has resulted in him forming bonds with cats over the years, and often times a Slytherin or Hufflepuff student can find their missing feline sleeping in his office somewhere.
- Severus once killed a student’s father. To this day he does not regret it and should similar circumstances present themselves he would do it again without hesitation.
- Severus prefers coffee in the morning and tea throughout the rest of the day. He drinks his coffee black, and his tea with a spoon of honey.
- During career counselling if a student professes having no notion what they want to do, Severus presents them a questionnaire he devised in his sixth year of teaching that helps them identify their best subjects and areas of interest, and through that will provide them pamphlets for positions that yield to that work, along with suggestions based on the results. It has taken a lot of the guess work out of this portion of the job and still grants the student options that are relevant to them.
- Severus is dangerously adept with fiendfyre, but Lucas – the man who taught him – is far better. That said – yes, Severus was absolutely a pyromaniac in his youth.

- So it’s pretty well established on my blog that Severus had ‘friends’ in Slytherin. Destin Wilkes, Eric Avery and Lucas Mulciber, specifically. I have covered the fact that Destin died in the First War and that he was the only legitimately good man among the group, that his death wrecked Severus in a lot of ways and Eric and Lucas were cold to it.
Eric is someone who has been played by multiple people over the years, mainly because I would fling him out as a request on forums; in 2012 things took a turn and honestly it was so defining that it became permanent canon for Severus.
What is not mentioned as much is the fact that Eric Avery dies in the Second War, actually in the midst of the OOTP timeline. He discovers that Severus is working for the side of light and he knows full well that Lucas despises Voldemort but won’t act against him so long as Eric remains loyal. In truth, Eric is tired and does not want to continue, so by his view, he set them free by making a scene at a Death Eater’s meeting and getting himself rather gruesomely murdered.
This had a lot of arching implications but overall, it means that as of the death of Eric, Lucas officially turns coat and Severus has one less person to worry about in the war.
- Something else not particularly covered is the fact that as deeply devoted as Severus is to his friends – the relationships are honestly not all that fabulous.
Destin is neutral so let’s start there. They were never very close the first six years at Hogwarts; it wasn’t until Severus’ mom died and his depression skyrocketed that Destin took active interest and started helping Severus cope, or try to. When Severus did a terrible thing, Destin was there because he low key had a watch on him and that formed a life debt. After which Destin and admittedly Lucas were the most on top of Severus’ mental health. ( We will get to Eric in a minute. )
In any case Destin became a good friend in the last year, and when everyone sort of grouped together to follow the Dark Lord he pretty much just swept with the crowd. He didn’t know what to expect and at the time it seemed like the fastest way to network with the in crowds. Destin did not find Death Eater business conscionable and immediately began covert efforts to stop things; he was later killed when on a mission for the Dark Lord he couldn’t stop what was happening so he called in Aurors and went on a rampage against the Death Eaters. Ironically, it was an Auror who took him out.
Of the three, he was the best friend Severus had beyond Lily Evans.
Then there is Lucas. Lucas literally wanted nothing to do with him, low key considered him irritating and high key hated the attention he had to share with Severus because Eric decided he liked him. It was in second year they started to bond and this was because Severus was covered in bruises so Lucas offered to show him how to fight. They bonded in violence from the very start and this never changed between them. A lot of communication between them is violent, they are one another’s literal punching bags when they can’t emote any other way.
In any case, Lucas tries to be a good friend in his own way. He is a blunt instrument and the son of a cult so he has his share of issues. He doesn’t understand grief and he actively encourages violence in a lot of ways. He means well but he is not the best person and shouldn’t be gone to for advice. By the time the second war rolls around Lucas IS loyal to Severus, but Severus is eternally aware they are very different people and that their unifying factor was Eric. Eric was the one who tamed their violence and gave them purpose, so without him they’re both at a loss with what the hell they’re fighting for anymore.
And then there is Eric. Eric who, by Severus or Lucas account, is sweet. He’s softer than both of them, certainly. He brings out the protectiveness in both of them, absolutely. But he is by no means a good person.
In fact, Eric Avery is the worst of all of them.
He actively manipulated Lucas from day one, recognizing the strength in the larger boy and forging a friendship with him fast in order to be well set when he got to Hogwarts with his very own bodyguard. He saw Severus and his vulnerability, his poverty, and saw in him the perfect sycophant. Severus was more of a pet to Eric than a friend, and while Severus never saw it – Lucas did. And he called it out frequently, but it never stuck for Severus and Eric laughed it off. Destin was frequently redirecting Eric’s attempts to garner yet more debt from Severus and Lucas was often drained by how hypocritical Eric could be.
Eric was not all bad and he had a lot of redeeming qualities, but his reasons for making his friends were gross and his reasons for ‘letting them go’ were gross as well. Eric did a lot of good things for Lucas and Severus, but they mostly just evened out the gross ones. Getting either Severus or Lucas to acknowledge this truth about Eric – especially after his death – is nigh impossible.
- Lucas was very territorial over Eric and Severus was mostly oblivious to this. Destin noticed it but never saw reason to comment. Eric was to Lucas what Lily was to Severus – the first friend, and therefore the most important one. When Eric died, Lucas and Severus had a violent altercation that might have escalated far further has Severus not broken their unspoken rule and cried out in pain while they were railing at each other.
These are men with very high pain tolerances. Men who’ve been pummeling one another since they were twelve. Hearing Severus cry out in pain was an enormous red flag for Lucas, and because of this medical issues that had been ignored on account of Severus’ dual lifestyle were addressed. Lucas at this point could have been turned to Dumbledore’s banner, but Severus never spoke the truth and instead, Lucas carried on his own war privately.

💑 What are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?

Severus has been so deeply indoctrinated into the belief that he is undesirable that in all honesty his standard is the exceptionally low bar of they’re interested. Provided they catch him in the right mood that’s literally all it takes to drag him off for a quick romp; Severus lacks the confidence to be picky with one night stands.
In regard to the more lasting relationships however, there are some patterns that I’ve noticed over my many years of writing him. Physicality is rarely a factor – gender, nationality, blood status – none of these things really register as a reason for him to date someone. That said he does hold concern over engaging with purebloods if only because of his own inferiority complex – it takes work for Severus to believe he is on an equal footing with a pureblood partner and this is less because he holds stock in the dogma than the fact most of the purebloods he knows do.
I can state one thing with absolute certainty though. If you cannot keep Severus on his toes, the chances of keeping him in a relationship are slim to none. I have never once seen him incline himself toward someone who does not mentally and emotionally stimulate him in some way – and I mean in more than a matter of general frustration.
Severus will never direct his attentions toward someone he does not respect – unfortunately their respect for him is rarely a requirement so as a mun I tend to intervene and send him elsewhere because I just do not have the energy for that kind of toxicity – that said it. Is worth noting that Severus never expects to be respected or cared for and these factors always come as a genuine surprise that – after the wave of vulnerability they elicit passes – is quite pleasant.
Severus is devotedly loyal to his friends and those he cares for, to the point of putting their happiness, their safety, their lives so far above his own the thought of dying for them isn’t even a consideration of sacrifice it is simply a fact of life. He is honored to be friends with people, and he feels indebted to anyone who shows him even the smallest kindness on a consistent basis, no matter how prickly he is. Which is why disloyalty in a partnership is something they will never have to fear. Severus, once attached to someone, will never think to betray them – but again, his self-esteem being what it is, he would not leave them if they were disloyal to him.
Severus doesn’t demand faithfulness. He doesn’t expect what he has to last which is what makes him willing to ‘share’ a partner; anything to keep them happy and keep things lasting longer. Severus needs someone who will communicate with him and understands enough about his issues to know when he is agreeing to appease and when he is genuinely interested. The more effort is shown to be loyal to him the less Severus will expect his partner to leave – the more he will come to trust the relationship and in turn, the healthier the relationship will become because he believes it will last.
Though once Severus reaches a point of fully believing in a relationship, other things do come into play. He can get surprisingly protective and even a little territorial when he believes he has the right to stand up for his relationship and his partner. I guess the best way to put it is that when Severus actually shows a sign of jealousy, you’re basically married. It usually takes a long time before he has enough confidence in his position and in the fact this relationship means as much to his partner as it does to him to behave jealously so – Severus getting territorial is actually a good sign that the relationship has grown into a healthy commitment.
Who is my muse’s celebrity crush? Who would my…
Now I am just picturing teen sev’s bedroom covered in these artist posters *3* such presh
Honestly I wish because that would be hilarious and adorable and fantastic blackmail material for his mom to tell his future dates about and his friends to rag on but –
Severus actually had very little wall space because his room was mostly bed, dresser and wardrobe. They lived in one of those houses where the roof slants the room, and because Tobias kept getting blackmailed out of every coin he made the upkeep was pretty terrible. Paint and wallpaper peeling, all kinds of plumbing issues, the summer bug problem was atrocious.
Severus learned pretty early on not to have anything valuable out where it could be ripped, shattered or thrown so he’d be unlikely to plaster posters up and give Tobias anything else to wreck. As a result his room was eerily unlived in even for a kid who spent most of the year in boarding school. He kept all his school supplies locked in his trunk, only the broken things and that which didn’t fit went into drawers or the wardrobe, and there was only the most basic things on top of the dresser – hair brush with ties wrapped around the handle, basic hygiene products and MAYBE if he was brave, a book.
Thankfully none of his friends ever saw his house aside from Lily and even she wasn’t allowed in because listen, Eileen knew who she married and who she came back to. She knew things weren’t good and she was very protective of Tobias. She knew better than to let neighbors learn what went on behind closed doors. So nobody knows the absolute void Severus returned to in the summers, and really that’s probably for the best.
🎥 Who is my muse’s celebrity crush?🎀 Who would my muse sleep with if nobody ever had to know? [[ I AM SUCH CURIOUS]]
{ Sinday Adherence }
We don’t really have a lot of Wizarding Celebrities, but I imagine there is probably a Weird Sister that has his attention but only in my fancasted version cause boy don’t get me started on the film version lmfao.
In any case – Muggle celebrity speaking, Severus stopped paying attention sometime ago so most of the people on this list are icons from the 70s and 80s – you know, when he actually noticed.
- David Bowie
- Janet Jackson
- Joan Jett
- Jennifer Beals
- Pam Grier
- Paula Abdul
- Prince
If nobody had to know Severus would likely not sleep with anyone; he’d want more caveats like no consequential blackmail. In a world of absolutely no repercussions whatsoever though? He wouldn’t say no to Lucius or Narcissa. Or both, for that matter. Of course he is also completely aware that’s never going to happen, so it would be like pulling teeth from a dragon in the midst of labor to get him to own up to it.

😉 What are my muse’s fetishes/kinks?

Being cared for.
Severus has a vast array of fetishes and kinks, though I will preface this with the fact that unless you are a level seven friend, the chances of engaging my Severus in a ship where any of these details will have any bearing are slim to absolute none. It is my experience that shipping with Severus tends to be toxic as a result of the fandom’s overall perception of him and I, as a mun, will not stand to let a muse I have spent almost twenty years writing be derogated into some fandom parody of himself so that someone can transfer their various grievances about his canon onto him.
I know that sounds harsh, but I implore you to go spend ten – fifteen minutes in the tumblr Severus Snape tag before writing me off as overprotective. While I can state that on every site but this one my experiences shipping with Severus have been generally positive, I have learned that tumblr is simply not a safe place for him and as a result, I tend to be very leery until I know someone well. At this point in time I would say it’s quite unlikely these will come into play on the blog, but for the sake of fun I’ll answer them anyway because – who knows what the future holds, right?
Praise:
Severus is not used to compliments on a regular day, so applying them in a bedroom
context is a surefire way to break him down and gain a more vulnerable side to
him.
Marking: Severus
takes great pleasure in being marked, mainly because the idea someone would
consider him valuable enough to lay such a claim on makes him weak. While he is
always careful to lay his own marks where not a soul save a lover would find ( taking
particular fondness in marking hips and above the heart ) when it comes to
himself he knows no care for propriety and would wear a necklace of bruises
proudly should anyone deign to impose one on him.
Gentleness:
Severus has lived a violent life and has had a very limited exposure to even
the most general kindness, so gentle lovers are more liable to make him melt
than forceful ones whom he will fight against on sheer instinct depending on
the bond.
Light BDSM Elements: This requires discussion of the scene prior to any activity
taking place, the inclusion of a safe word and an understanding that aftercare
is a mandatory component. Severus needs to have complete faith in his partner
to play the submissive role and that is not won easily; conversely he will play
the dominant role, though in such cases he tends to prefer softer scenes.
As the submissive, Severus will
consent to a fair variety of objects in the bedroom. Blindfolds, rope, cuffs,
whips, candles and even knives are acceptable beyond the garden variety of
general toy options. Orgasm control and denial, edging and general touch play
are all very welcome. Though he does agree to pain, he does not derive pleasure
from it – this is something he invites only if he knows his partner enjoys such
things and it is his way of offering them additional enjoyment in their
activities.
This makes the aftercare all the
more important, as that is the aspect focused on Severus after such scenes as
far as he is concerned. He will also ensure his partner is aware that he does
not derive any pleasure from pain, and that he is taking it only to please
them, as open communication is essential and he knows there are doms who will
not inflict pain unless the submissive derives pleasure from the experience.
An exception to this rule is in hair pulling, which is the one thing
that can bring Severus pleasure depending on the context, timing, and
viciousness of the pull. He enjoys hands in his hair and the odd, hard tug, but
yanking and ripping will make him viciously cross as opposed to aroused.
Finally, it should be noted that
anything that restricts his breathing is a hard refusal with the exception of
his partner’s hands. While he is relatively fine with choking, in the event
that he shows signs of not being alright it is expected that his partner stop
and check on him, as a failure to do so will result in both the end of the
scene and Severus leaving for the evening to collect himself. Chances are he
will avoid his partner for some time, as well. The thing with breathplay is
Severus can never tell when it will be a good or bad day for it – some days he
deeply enjoys it and other days it can cause him considerable mental anguish,
so it needs to be taken carefully.
😳 What was my muse’s worst romantic/sexual relationship?
{ Sinday Adherence }

Severus worst experience can be traced to an exact day.
On September 30, 1979, Severus was riding the euphoria that came in the wake of murdering his father on the 28th. He had proceeded to a meeting that same night and the following day had been deeply embroiled in training with the Dark Lord. He was so greatly rewarded for his act of patricide that nothing could bring him down. He felt elated in ways he had not known he was capable of – and naturally, he turned to the two men who understood best the depth of what had been done. The significance of taking his father out, of killing him in a manner inherently Muggle and as brutal and bloody as the man had been in life.
Lucas and Eric rose to the occasion with flare and flamboyance, the former genuinely proud of Severus for freeing himself once and for all of his father’s bondage, and the latter keen for any excuse to get absolutely, rip-roaring drunk. The drinks were on his friends and for once, Severus did not lament in debt and simply reveled in absolute style.
The night wore on, bar hopping shifted to clubbing, and eventually Severus broke off from his boys and headed home with a woman as euphoric as he was ( though doubtless for less dubious reasons. ) The engagement itself was highly enjoyable – if a great deal more energetic than Severus was used to.
Cue morning.
Severus wakes to the sound of a man and a woman fighting in another room, in another language, and is transported out of time for a moment. To mornings with parents screaming at one another, their words barely legible. He sat up in time for the furious arrival of the woman’s husband into the bedroom, and proceeded to get into a most undignified brawl – which might have been better managed had he been wearing a scrap of clothing at the time.
Ousted from the house with a split lip and a ( once again ) broken nose, his clothes a bundle in his arms that barely concealed his dignity, Severus scrambled out of sight and into the alleyway to disapparate.
To this day he considers it more shameful that he obtained greater injury from a cuckold than he did in the murder of his father, than he does the fact he slept with a married woman.
🏩 What was my muse’s first time like? 👍 Does my muse prefer to be asked on a date, or would they rather do the asking?
{ Sinday Adherence }

Remus swinging in with the real questions.
Severus’ first time is one that is actually rather debatable. By his account, his first real ‘romantic’ engagement came about in his sixth year. It was after his mother’s death and not too long after his attempt on himself that Destin Wilkes managed to pull him back from by rather literally holding him together while another student fetched a teacher.
He and his dorm mates had been playing a drinking game thanks to birthday booze smuggled in for Eric Avery quite illegally, and on Severus’ round he confessed to having never been kissed. As all in the group were aware of how near to death without even this much under his belt Severus had come, one among them took it upon themselves to ‘correct this’ and opted to kiss him right then.
While Severus might not have counted it had it ended there, during the last Hogsmeade weekend of the year, Lucas got hold of him again. Though he tasted of illegally procured Firewhiskey, Severus was complicit until the other got a bit too handsy, at which point he simply helped Lucas back to the dorm. Neither of them ever talked about it, but if asked, Lucas would profusely claim it didn’t count – which leads us then to what does.
While it was overall a mess – what with teenagers fumbling about trying to figure out body mechanics in the wake of howling hormones – Severus’ first time was a relatively pleasant affair with a Hufflepuff boy in his year that he’d mostly known by extension of the fact he’d joined his potions tutoring group through Destin. They didn’t date for too long and both of them were extremely closeted about it, but they were good to one another and remained friendly into their adult years. Severus has no idea what happened to him during the war, beyond the fact he has not heard of the man since.
EDIT CAUSE I FORGOT THERE WERE TWO QUESTIONS:
Unless alcohol is involved the likelihood of Severus doing the asking is -9001% as he has absolutely no confidence he will receive anything other than laughter. Your best bet is to just tell him bluntly you’re interested or he will find a thousand and one reasons to debunk your compliments and flirtations as casual friendliness.
Skin, Neck / Shoulders
{ Body Headcanons }
SKIN:
I write Severus as biracial, with his maternal side being Gaels who can trace their ancestry back to the 11th century and his paternal side being estranged from their Punjabi roots on account of decisions made by Tobias’ father. ( Tobias is himself biracial; his father the son of Punjabi immigrants whom he estranged himself from violently when he was in his early twenties and his mother a Caucasian Englishwoman. ) Tobias knew nothing of his extended family on the paternal side and his mother’s extended family held a firm and dominating hand over his own foundations, so he could say very little toward his own ancestry in that respect.
In any case, Tobias had dark, almond brown skin while Eileen, by contrast, was pale as marble. Severus took after Tobias in the majority of his looks from childhood – thick black hair, dark brown eyes and healthy, nut brown skin. As he aged, undernourishment and lack of sufficient sunlight caused him to gain an unhealthy pallor that was ill-suited to his natural coloring. He frequently looks pale and sickly as a result of this; what is more, due to certain hematomas absorbed in his youth, he has higher than average
bilirubin levels, causing some slight yelllowing of his skin along the lines of his cheek and in mottled portions of his back that resemble jaundice.
Were Severus to alter his lifestyle, and gain more frequent access to sunlight, begin eating properly and on something vaguely resembling a schedule, his skin would return to it’s natural, darker hues and would look, overall, a great deal more robust and healthy as a result.
NECK / SHOULDERS:
Main!Severus has a slender neck, pronounced collarbones and relatively slim shoulders that overall match the rest of him. While in AU’s where his life took an alternative direction ( Edge of Revolution & March To Your Own ) Severus is much healthier, and has a somewhat thicker neck, rounder shoulders and collarbones that are padded by muscle, in most of his canon tales he is unhealthily underweight and his muscle concentration is overall on the lean side.
While not out of shape and certainly capable of holding his own, Severus is prone to fractures and breaks in his bones due to an overall lack of muscle mass to defend them from impact. This is particularly notable with his collarbones, as he tends to fracture them fairly often as a result of impacts taken during duels.
lips
{ Body Headcanons }
Severus has thin lips, which he inherited from his mother’s side of the family. While Eileen herself had fuller lips, from her maternal side, Severus has the angular lines that come from the Prince line through his maternal grandfather. ( He also has the Prince jawline, though it is debatable on whether he gained his nose from his mother or his father as both had pronounced, narrow noses. )
Due to the atmosphere at home, Severus learned to be very subtle in his expressions in order to evade sparking tempers through overt actions. As a result of this, he developed a very dour countenance quite young and learned to mimic his mother’s manner of twisting lips into various, nuanced expressions that on normal features could range anywhere from snarls to smiles.
Thinning his lips is often a sign of displeasure or deep thought, while openly curling them tends to only be utilized in aggressive fashions. This is, again, because overt emotion was punished – utilizing it became associated to violence and anger, to temperate situations in so vicious a fashion that Severus developed nigh animalistic tendencies when it came to expressions involving his lips.
Smiles are very rare – again, most species bear their teeth as a sign of aggression and in the Snape household this was no different than it might have been in the animal kingdom. Flashes of teeth were threatening – which is very much why in his youth, Severus smiled close mouthed or not at all. As he aged, he took to flashing his teeth as a means of warning his friends, a sign of pending aggression – his smiles in the first war were heralds of mischief at best and brutal actions at their very worst.
The singular exception to this was around Lily – she was much more extroverted than Severus himself, and he learned to express himself differently around her in order to keep up with her. When Severus laughed or smiled around her, he was unguarded and natural. His teeth were never a threat, but his smiles would vanish swiftly the moment another stepped into their vicinity. Lily is the only person who has seen Severus treat a smile like something normal, rather than something furtive or secret, aggressive or shameful.
Although he had other friends, his smiles among them were as much masks as anything else. He behaved differently with Eric and Lucas than he did with Eric and Destin, because the dynamics were vastly different. His behavior around Narcissa or Lucius another direct contrast, one more openly deferential, it would be many years before he would risk even the ghost of smiles around them because he operated under the awareness that as a halfblood, he was by no means their equal and must, at all times, be dignified in their presence. And dignity, by then, was equated to controlled emotion and masked responses that bordered toward inscrutable even in youth.
There are very few who are privileged enough to understand what certain turns of Severus’ lips mean, who can accurately deduce the difference from when he is containing laughter or silencing wrath. More often than not, his lips are counted as venomous and lashing as his tongue and few ever come to note how much is said, in the corners of all he does not say.
