Harry could not have been less interested in this lecture if it had been offered by Professor Binns. He had just glanced off toward the Slytherins by chance – less because he was interested in them in particular, and more because they just happened to be what was within the easy line of sight for distraction amid this mind-numbing experience.Â
What he did not anticipate was catching Malfoyâs eye. Some old habit kept him from being the first to look away – which proved worthwhile considering the other saw fit to stick out his tongue. It completely jarred Harry – thrusting him back in time to before the war. To when walking the halls of Hogwarts had filled him with a sense of wonder, rather than the tomb it felt like now. So many had died here, it was impossible to just forget – and yet, for one brief moment, Malfoyâs unexpected act of immaturity managed to remind him that once upon a time, just two or three years ago, theyâd been nothing more than kids.
Maybe it was a strange reaction, but rather than glower at Malfoy, Harry offered a smile that was almost thankful.
