Severus was honestly quite uncertain about this entire arrangement. However, given that those who had impeccable standing were either married or too glorified to be saddled with a responsibility such as this one. He was to see this as a sign of the Ministry’s faith, that he was more than merely cleared on file, but seen as one of them in a way that warranted reward through dutiful aid to his community by being the one to reign in an immortal obscurial.
Please. He knew a mission set to fail when it danced before him in elegant script, but it was hardly as though he were in a position to decline the responsibility. So he had signed what little remained of himself away in order to be left in peace, and now he was meant to help his soon-to-be husband settle in.
“I am sure you expected better,” Severus agreed amiably, folding his hands over his cane to keep himself steady and discourage his desire to clench them in irritation at the greeting. “Nevertheless, I intend to do as required of me, and would suggest you do the same. I’ve had a room prepared for you – second door on the left. Feel free to unpack and settle in. If you’ve any need of me, I’ll be in the livingroom.”
